Whitestone houses, blue window shutters, and hot pink bougainvilleas

Yes, with the Instagram friendly village Kokkari in your feed, you’ll make your followers book a trip to Samos faster than they can say ”Opa!” Kokkari is located on the northern part of Samos, and since its much windier here, it’s not optimal if you want a calm day at the beach. But if you enjoy windsurfing, you’re in the right place! On the other hand, who has time for sunbathing, when this picturesque fishing village is photo friendly wherever you go.

If you come here early in the morning, start out by exploring the alleys before the sun is set too high! On top of the village, you get a beautiful view of the churches with their iconic blue domes. Also, don’t forget to keep an eye out for the colorful and Instagram friendly walls.

Find the locals

But when you start to feel your camera shoulder grow numb, it’s time to find your way down to the port. Here, the restaurants will fight to have you as a guest. But take your time and pay attention to where the locals hang out.

Then, while you let your lunch digest, have a look in the ceramic stores. Are you an impulsive shopper like me? Don’t come and say I didn’t warn you….But to your defense: of course, you’ll need that olive serving set and ouzo glasses when you throw a Greek party – a cold winter night back home…..

Santa Margherita Ligure – A Photographers Paradise

Less than a 2-hour drive from Milan on the Italian west coast, you find Santa Margherita Ligure. A genuine and sort of old-school vacation spot, like the ones you see in Italian movies! I really wish that you sometime during your life, spend a couple of your vacation days here – and I’ll give you 3 good reasons why.

1. Take a break from the beach, put on your comfy shoes (you didn’t read Crocs) and just walk

Santa Margherita isn’t just a tourist resort, it’s a vibrant town with its own native people. It takes you on breathtaking walks, and I don’t mean the beach walk. No, here you get your fair share of hill training! The town is built on a slope which faces the sun all day. If it gets sweaty? You bet! But you’re rewarded with a view that makes you never want to leave – the booty workout is just a bonus 😉

2. The Jet Set hub Portofino

Want a taste of La Dolce Vita? Then take the car or bus a few kilometers away, to world-famous Portofino. In this picturesque little fishing village, the yachts fight for your attention. And there’s a big chance you’ll see a famous face while you lunch on your ”Spaghetti al Frutti di Mare”. Portofino is a must for celebrities on their Mediterranean holiday.

3. Don’t forget your camera

Do you love taking photos, just like me? Then take your camera with you wherever you go. The landscape in Santa Margherita is so photogenic – as are the people. But don’t forget to be present with all your senses (I have to remind myself all the time). And the best way to practice that here?

Go sit down in a bar and sip on your Negroni; listen to the Italians speak, and inhale the ocean smell…The smell of fish and seafood you’re about to eat soon. If you are in that moment, ”the power of now,” and also manage to capture it with your camera…Then you’ll have memories to share for the rest of your life.
